Max Steuer, MD is an experienced neurosurgeon at Atlanta Progressive Spine & Neurosurgery Associates. He is highly regarded for the compassionate manner in which he treats patients and their families. Dr. Steuer has been on the cutting edge of many exciting technological advancements throughout his career including being the first surgeon in Georgia to use intraoperative CT scan combined with stereotactic navigation for spine surgery. Dr. Steuer's professional interests are on spinal surgery with particular focus on degenerative disc disease, herniated discs, spondylolisthesis, and minimally invasive fusion. He has been a pioneer in cervical disc replacement investigations and robotic navigational technology.
He grew up in Athens, Georgia and earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Dr. Steuer focused on surgical training during medical school at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. After graduation he completed his internship and neurosurgery residency at the Baylor affiliated hospitals in Houston before returning to Georgia to practice at Northside Hospital in Atlanta.
He is board-certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and has served as chief of surgery at Northside Hospital.
Dr. Steuer views lifelong activity as the key to maintaining spinal wellness and overall health. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his wife, Lisa, an attorney for the Atlanta Legal Aid Society, and their three children, golfing, and going on annual canoe trips to Canada. Dr. Steuer warmly welcomes patients to Atlanta Progressive Spine & Neurosurgery Associates and looks forward to serving them.
